Strong Start for Thorpebury’s 21T – 1,000 Journeys and Counting

Centrebus is pleased to announce that the newly introduced Service 21T has already achieved 1,000 customer journeys from Thorpebury since its launch in August. The service provides a vital link between the growing Thorpebury residential development and Leicester City Centre, travelling along Barkbythorpe Road and Catherine Street.
The service is supported through a Section 106 Agreement with the developers at Thorpebury, with both Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council working closely with Centrebus to ensure a robust service is provided.
Service 21T offers frequent, convenient journeys throughout the week. It runs up to every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on a Sunday, with departures from Thorpebury starting early in the morning and continuing past 10pm at night. Full timetable details are available at www.centrebus.info
Passengers arriving in Leicester on the 21T can also connect to the free Hop! bus, which departs every 10 minutes from outside Haymarket Bus Station. This service provides easy access around the city centre and stops at Leicester Royal Infirmary, De Montfort University, and Leicester railway station.
David Brookes, Managing Director at Centrebus, said: “Reaching 1,000 customer journeys from Thorpebury on Service 21T is a fantastic achievement. It demonstrates the success of collaboration between developers, local authorities and bus operators in delivering accessible and sustainable transport. As more homes are occupied at Thorpebury, we are confident passenger numbers will continue to grow.”
Phil Saunders, Project Manager from GO Travel Solutions said “Delivering the Thorpebury bus service has required a significant investment in time and energy. Partnership working closely with the authorities has been essential. We’re delighted to see this being rewarded with the positive take-up of the bus service in such a short space of time.”
He added “Initial feedback from Thorpebury residents is that the new bus service from Centrebus is being very well received. Having reliable and good quality public transport connectivity is essential for any new development.”
Councillor Adam Tilbury, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "The early success of the 21T service demonstrates the importance of strong transport links for new communities. It’s fantastic to see Thorpebury residents embracing the service, which offers a convenient and affordable way to stay connected to local areas."
